Senior Officials Meeting on South-to-South Cooperation on Disability at United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, Thailand
The Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) will organize the Senior Officials Meeting on South-to-South Cooperation on Disability in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on 19th to 20th August, 2010 at United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok.
 
Senior officials from 10 ASEAN countries are invited to Bangkok. This meeting is expected to review the implementation of the Biwako Millennium Framwork for Action and the Biwako Plus Five particularly concerning “Community-based inclusive development”; to discuss feasibility of ASEAN sub-regional mechanism to enhance and facilitate the movement of persons with disabilities; and to share good practices of partnership and collaboration among multi-stakeholders on the work of disability and development.
 
Twenty representatives from Ministry of Social Welfare and 10 representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs from ASEAN countries will attend the Senior Officials Meeting. The opening ceremony will be held at United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok (UNESCAP, Rajdamnern Nok Avenue Bangkok 10200) 09.00 am on 9th June, 2010.
 
The Representatives of Self-help Groups or Self-help Organizations of persons with disabilities, who are attending Training of Trainers for Community-based Rehabilitation (CBR) from 18th – 30th August, will also join to share their experiences. This meeting serves to enhance further collaboration among governments representatives and the representatives of Self-help Groups/ Organizations towards the empowerment of persons with disabilities and to promote an inclusive, barrier-free and rights-based society for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
