Closing Ceremony of TCTP 2016: Knowledge Creation Forum on CBID (Capacity Building for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and their Parents), Bangkok, Thailand, 5 August 2016

The closing ceremony of the Third Country Training Programme: Knowledge Creation Forum on Community-based Inclusive Development 2016 (Capacity Building for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and their Parents) on 5 August 2016 gathered distinguished guests and supporters of TCTP 2016 where they had an opportunity to express their insights about the Training.

H.E. Mr. Shiro Sadoshima (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Thailand) delivered a special lecture on art and disability where he recalled his own experiences and activities as an artist. Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij (Deputy Director General) of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and Mr. Hiroo Tanaka (Chief Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency - Thailand), as well as  Ms. Vijttra Rajatanuntikul (Director, Strategic and Planning Department, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand) also gave closing remarks and messages, respectively. Nissan Motor (Thailand) Co. Ltd. also expressed its generous support in the creation of printed materials as a tangible outcome of the intensive two-week training. It is anticipated that young persons with intellectual disabilities in the Mekong Sub-region will continue to develop their skills in creating art pieces and animation, among others.

Preparation for the Sports Event, Myanmar, 24-26 August 2016

Representatives from the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) were in Myanmar from 24-26 August 2016 to meet with officials of the Department of Social Welfare, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and the Myanmar Autism Association (MAA) to discuss the details of the upcoming autism event in December 2016.

Apart from a series of discussions with the Executive Committee members of the MAA, a meeting with the Myanmar Paralympic Sports Federation/Special Olympics Myanmar and a visit to the Games' track and field and swimming venues were also conducted.

Field Visits to Rayong and Nakhon Pathom in Collaboration with JICA, Thailand, 9-10 August 2016

The APCD, along the representatives from JICA Hokkaido, met with officials and representatives in Rayong and Nakhon Pathom on 9-10 August 2016 to strengthen collaborative ties in the empowerment of persons with disabilities.

Both groups met with point persons of the Rayong Provincial Social Department and Human Security Office, the Nikhom Phatthana Sub-District Administrative Organization, and the Rayong Disabled Agricultural Products Trade Association. In Nakhon Pathom, they met with the Nakhon Pathom Provincial Social Department and Human Security Office, the Sisa Thong Sub-District Administrative Organization, and the Sisa Thong Self-Help Group for Persons with Disabilities.

Visitors from the University of Sacred Heart and Keisen University were welcomed by APCD for a field visit on 8 August 2016 in collaboration with JICA. The aim of the field visit was to learn more about APCD's regional activities and programs, as well as share technical support by representatives of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer (JOCV). After the presentation and open forum, the visitors were given a tour of APCD and 60 Plus+ Bakery & Cafe's accessible and inclusive features.

Officials and staff from Rajanukul Institute's Department of Mental Health, along with visiting Japanese academicians, were at APCD on 24 August to conduct a study tour. The purpose of the visit was to learn more about APCD's history and regional activities on disability and development related to emerging groups, especially persons with intellectual disabilities, and conducted in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and other partners.

Apart from the presentations and open forum, the visitors were also given a tour of APCD's accessible premises, including the APCD Training Building and the 60 Plus+ Bakery & Cafe.
