Ocular inspection of the jetty to be modified in Pyapon 

A series of activities was conducted by the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD)/Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) Project in Pyapon Township, Myanmar from 17-20 February 2016. Among these were a Training on Livelihood in Rural Markets attended by members of Disabled People's Organizations; the identification and modification of a jetty; accessibility audits of existing modified markets; and Project evaluation by Steering Committee members. 

The activities were held with the support of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement through the Department of Social Welfare, Pyapon Township General Administrative Department, Pyapon Township Development Committee, Myanmar Physically Handicapped Association - Pyapon Township and ActionAid Myanmar-Pyapon Branch.

The 'Grant Presentation Appreciation Ceremony' to Sompo Nipponkoa Welfare Foundation was held by the Association for Independent Living of People with Disability (AILD) in Nakhonpathom, Thailand on 17 February 2017, with the support of APCD and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The recipient of the Grant is the Salaya Eua Arthon Market where market modifications will be made to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities.

Study Visit of Chuo University Students, Bangkok, Thailand, 16 February 2016

Welcome remarks by the APCD Executive Director    

Sixteen students and staff from Japan's Chuo University took part in a study visit on 16 February 2016 to learn more about APCD's regional activities in promoting the empowerment of persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as to observe the benefits of the close cooperation between Japan and Thailand.

Apart from the presentations, the visitors were given disability-related group exercises and a tour of APCD's accessible working environment, including the newly-opened 60 Plus+ Bakery and Cafe, a Human Resource Center branch of Thai Yamazaki, which is being manned by persons with disabilities.

Group photo at the 60 Plus+ Bakery and Cafe 

The Special Education Class of the Thai-Japanese Association School consisting of 16 grade school students and nine teachers, conducted a study visit to APCD on 9 February 2016. The purpose of the visit was for the children to experience how to bake and buy bread, among other activities.

The guests were given a tour of the 60 Plus+ Bakery and Cafe for them to understand the process of bread making and selling, as well as engaged in group fun activities and games.

Capacity building activity on fold and design Valentine gift ornaments 

Members of the Dao Ruang Group, the first self-advocacy group of persons with intellectual disabilities in Thailand, met up on 13 February 2016 at APCD to discuss future activities and participate in capacity building activities, among others. Along with their parents and supporters, the Group brainstormed on fundraising ideas and learned how to create do-it-yourself fold and design Valentine's Day cards.
