Explaining the rules to sports players with autism
The Third ASEAN Autism Network (AAN) Congress kicked off with the First ASEAN Autism Friendship Games in Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines, on 15-16 January 2016. The event was graced by Ms. Mona Magno-Veluz (President, Autism Society Philippines), Mr. Malai Hj Abdullah bin Hj Malai Othman (Chairperson, ASEAN Autism Network), Mr. Hiroaki Uesugi (Director, The Japan Foundation, Manila), Mr. Noriaki Niwa (Chief Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency Philippine Office), Hon. Caesar Perez (Mayor, Municipality of Los Banos, Laguna) and Ms. Carmen Reyes Zubiaga (Acting Executive Director, National Council on Disability Affairs of the Philippines). Over 400 persons with autism and their parents from nine ASEAN countries participated in various activities including track and field events, swimming, bowling, and cultural fellowship programs, among others.
The event was organized by the Autism Society Philippines (ASP), the ASEAN Autism Network (AAN), the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) and the Japan Foundation Asia Center. It was held in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) of the Philippines, the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) of the Philippines, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) of Thailand and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with support from Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF), Municipality of Los Banos, SM Cares and Autism Society Japan (ASJ).

Leading Angels Walk for Autism by partners
The second major event of the Third AAN Congress was the Angels Walk for Autism led by the SM Group of Companies on 17 January 2016 at the SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City, Manila, Philippines. This year's event drew more than 15,000 participants from all over the Philippines and other ASEAN countries. Special guests included H.E. Dr. A.K.P. Mochtan (Deputy Secretary General, Community and Corporate Affairs), Hon. Sonny Angara (Senator of the Republic of the Philippines), Mr. Akiie Ninomiya (Executive Director, APCD), Engr. Bien Mateo (Program Director, SM Cares) and Ms. Mona Magno-Veluz (President, ASP).
With the theme 'Onwards to an Autism-OK Philippines', the event also featured the various talents of persons with autism from the ASEAN region and announced the ASP Autism Angels Achievement Award 2016 recipients.

Discussion about AAN activities and future direction
The APCD and AAN Executive Committee members met in Manila, Philippines on 16 January 2016 to discuss updates and plans for the future for the Network. Among the topics discussed was the amendment of the AAN Constitution, AAN Child Protection Policy, selection of the host country for the 4th AAN Congress, election of new officers, and the activities for the World Autism Awareness Day to be held on 2 April 2016.

APCD/JAIF Project Training on Livelihood Project Management, Kien Svay District, Cambodia, 25-27 January 2016

The APCD, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY) of Cambodia, Disability Action Council (DAC), ASEAN Secretariat, MSDHS of Thailand and JAIF, conducted the APCD/JAIF Project Training on Livelihood Project Management in Kien Svay District, Cambodia, on 25-27 January 2016.
Training participants included members of the APCD/JAIF Project Steering Committee members composed of Kien Svay District Government officials, rural market owners, and members of Disabled People Organizations, among others. The Training is one of the activities related to the rural market modification projects in four markets - Phlou Thmey, Sdao Kanleng, Wat Krao and Koki Thom.

Documentation of Non-Handicapping Environment Project Implementation in Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Iloilo, Philippines, 10-16 January 2016
Accessibility audit of the Manolo Fortich Municipal Office in Bukidnon
The Documentation of Non-Handicapping Environment (NHE) Project Implementation in Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Iloilo in the Philippines was conducted by APCD in collaboration with the Philippines' DSWD and NCDA, and the support of the local governments in the said provinces. The field visits were aimed at monitoring how the two pilot NHE projects in Opol, Misamis Oriental and New Lucena, Iloilo have expanded and influenced other municipalities. The visits were also conducted to identify NHE good practices that could be replicated in other locales, including other ASEAN countries.

APCD welcomed H.E. Madame Kae Yanagisawa, JICA Vice President, during her visit to the APCD offices in Bangkok, Thailand, on 28 January 2016. The visit was to foster ties and exchange information about technical collaboration between the Government of Japan through JICA, and the Government of Thailand through TICA and APCD. Apart from presentations about various past and possible future collaboration between APCD and JICA, guests were also given a tour of APCD's 60 Plus+ Bakery & Cafe and the APCD Training Building's accessible facilities.

Introduction of APCD staff
Prof. Katsutoshi Enokida, Chairperson of the Wheelchair and Friendship Center of Asia (WAFCA), visited APCD on 28 January 2016 to discuss future technical collaboration between WAFCA and APCD in promoting the empowerment of persons with disabilities and a barrier free society. He was also given updates on APCD's regional activities on disability and development, as well as to observe accessible working facilities for persons with disabilities at the 60 Plus+ Bakery & Cafe at the APCD administration building.

CIAI/APCD 'Community for All' Project Mid-Term Review in Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phayao and Sisaket, Thailand, December 2015-January 2016
Mid-term review discussions with the local community
The CIAI (Italian Association for Aid to Children)/APCD 'Community for All' Project staff conducted a Mid-Term Review in four Thailand provinces - Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phayao and Sisaket in December 2015 and January 2016. Apart from interviews with members of local Disabled People's Organizations, the staff also met with local government officials and other stakeholders to evaluate and get feedback about the Project, which seeks to promote a barrier-free society in the four provinces.

Study Visit of Thai-Japanese Association School Students, Bangkok, Thailand, 27 January 2016
Students learning how to use wheelchairs
Twenty-five high school students of the Thai-Japanese Association School conducted a study visit to APCD on 27 January 2016 to learn more about APCD's accessibile facilities and working environment and understand more about Universal Design. They also participated in disability-related exercises that taught them how to interact with persons with various disabilities, including those with visual and physical disabilities, and those who are hard of hearing.
