The Workshop on Universal Design and Barrier Value was hosted by the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability on 26 November 2015 at the APCD Training Building in collaboration with the Friendly Design Ambassador Project (Thailand), Mirairo and The Nippon Foundation.
Attended by more than 50 participants, the Workshop was conducted to exchange knowledge and information with a young entrepreneur with disabilities from Japan about universal design and barrier value, including the introduction of a new application that assesses accessibility from the perspective of persons with disabilities.

Study Visit by JENESYS2015 Outbound Programme University Students, Bangkok, Thailand, 16 November 2015
Presentation for students of the JENESYS2015 Outbound Programme
Twenty-three JENESYS2015 Outbound Programme University Students took part in a study visit to APCD on 16 November 2015. JENESYS2015 is part of the Government of Japan's Friendship Ties Programme, which aims to promote a vibrant and practical exchange of information and knowledge between Japan and other countries, including issues on social welfare and security in the Asia-Pacific region.
During their visit, the students were introduced to disability issues and APCD's regional activities related to disability in the region. Apart from presentations and exercises, the students also went on a tour of APCD's accessible working environment.

Development of Leadership and Networking of Persons with Disabilities, Japan, 23 September-14 November 2015
Meet and greet with persons with disabilities at the Muchu Independent Living Center
One of APCD's staff took part in the Development of Leadership and Networking of Persons with Disabilities, a Group and Region-Focused Training implemented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) from 23 September to 14 November 2015 in Japan.
With nine fellows from Fiji, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Sudan, Thailand and Zimbabwe, the Training aimed to transmit knowledge and skills to participants and enable them to work towards better protection of human rights and improved living standards of persons with disabilities in their respective countries and/or region. Apart from individual sharing and presentations, training participants also had immersion tours to various places.

Study Visit of Ratchasuda College PhD Students and Staff, Bangkok, Thailand, 16 November 2015
Ratchasuda College PhD students and staff at the APCD office
Doctor of Philosophy students of Ratchasuda College, Mahidol University who are studying Quality of Life Development for Persons with Disabilities visited APCD on 16 November 2015 to learn more about disability issues and APCD's role in the Asia-Pacific region.
In particular, the students were given inputs on how to enhance their skills and broaden their vision in various aspects relevant to the quality of life of persons with disabilities. The students were also given a tour of the APCD Training Building's accessible facilities.

Master of Art in Rehabilitation Science for Persons with Disabilities students from Ratchasuda College, Mahidol University conducted a study visit to APCD on 12 November 2015 to learn more about the latter's role and activities in the Asia-Pacific region.
Apart from getting an overview of APCD's history, the students was also introduced to non-handicapping environment by touring APCD's accessible facilities.

Two New Reports Now Available for Download
APCD launches two new reports this month, namely, the Report on ASEAN-Japan Senior Officials' Meeting on International Cooperation and Disability and the Summary Report on Transforming Communities for Inclusion-Asia: Working Towards TCI-Asia Strategy Development. Both reports are now available for download at the APCD website in accessible text, Readable PDF, and ePub formats.
