The CIAI (Italian Association for Aid to Children)/APCD 'Community for All' Project continued its Capacity Building of Service Providers training series in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand on 19-22 October 2015.

The training, based on the Community-based Inclusive Development (CBID) comprehensive plan, encourages open communication between local service providers and disabled people's organizations (DPOs) for the purpose of assessing the community's knowledge about the needs of persons with disabilities. It also stresses the importance of accessibility in said communities.

The CIAI/APCD Project team was in Kanchanaburi, Thailand on 13 to 15 October 2015 to conduct a Capacity Building of Service Providers. Held to evaluate the needs of persons with disabilities in local communities and develop the capacity of service providers to sustain disability-related activities, the training provides an opportunity for DPOs and public and government institutions to discuss at length various disability-related issues with a goal towards empowering persons with disabilities in the community.

Launching of the Makati Disability Inclusive Business Service Cooperative, Makati City, Philippines, 21 October 2015

The Makati Disability Inclusive Business Service Cooperative (MDIBSC) was formally established in Makati City, Philippines by persons with disabilities on 21 October 2015. The Cooperative is an initiative that resulted from the Online Captioning Project set up in January 2015, which aimed to train persons with disabilities in providing professional online captioning service for persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific region.

The launching ceremony was organized by the MDIBSC in partnership with the City Government of Makati and the Makati Social Welfare Department and attended by key partners including ASTEM, APCD, National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), Makati PWD Federation, United Architects of the Philippines and Hard of Hearing Group Philippines, among others.

Preparation for the 3rd ASEAN Autism Network Congress 2016, Manila, Philippines, 19-22 October 2015

APCD recently met with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) of the Philippines, the NCDA, the Autism Society Philippines (ASP), the SM Supermalls and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Philippines to facilitate preparations for the Third ASEAN Autism Network Congress set to be held on 15 to 17 January 2016 in Manila, Philippines. Key partners also paid a visit to potential venues for the Congress.

The event, to be attended by persons with autism and their parents from the ASEAN region, will highlight the Participatory Autism-Friendly Leisure, Recreation and Sports Games in line with Article 30 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

Summary Report on Third Country Training Programme: Knowledge Creation Forum on Community-based Inclusive Development 2015

APCD recently launched its latest publication, the Summary Report on Third Country Training Programme: Knowledge Creation Forum on Community-based Inclusive Development 2015. The report, now available for download in accessible text formats, focuses on the Capacity-building of Persons with Autism and their Parents, held at the APCD Training Building in Bangkok from 12 to 25 July 2015, organized by APCD in collaboration with JICA and Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) with support from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand.
