The Third Country Training Programme: Knowledge Creation Forum on Community-based Inclusive Development 2015 (Capacity-building of Persons with Autism and Their Parents) was held at the APCD Training Building from 12 to 25 July 2015. The Training was organized by the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand through the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with support from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand (MSDHS).
In total, 24 participants with autism and their parents from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam took part in the Training from the perspective of Community-based Development (CBID). It was also aimed at exchanging practical information and knowledge among young persons with autism and their parents, and promoting their participation in recreation, leisure and sports activities. Mayor Dahlia Loyola of Carmona, Cavite, Philippines also shared her municipality's success stories in implementing autism-related projects.

Visit by Chuo University Suginami High School Students, Bangkok, Thailand, 27 July 2015
Presentation of APCD activities and projects
Students from the Chuo University Suginami High School in Japan took part in a visit and orientation program at the APCD Training Building on 27 July 2015 as part of their study tour of Thailand. Twenty-two high school students learned more about APCD activities that promote the empowerment of persons with disabilities in Thailand and other Asia-Pacific countries. The session was facilitated by APCD in collaboration with Chuo University and JICA Thailand Office.
A tour of APCD's accessible training facilities and working environment was also conducted.

CIAI-APCD Project Establishment of CBID Committee and Definition of SAO Plan, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand, 15-17 July 2015
Discussing disability-inclusive business in Nasai SAO
The CIAI (Italian Association for Aid to Children)-APCD Project held a series of activities in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand, from 15 to 17 July 2015 to establish a Community-based Inclusive Development Committee and create an action plan for Nasai and Pakpoon Sub-district Administrative Organizations (SAOs).
Among the topics raised for discussion during said activities included livelihood options for Disabled People's Organizations (DPOs) using local materials, as well as the importance of accessibility and disability-inclusive business in the community. The Project team also visited schools and conducted accessibility audits of public facilities in the two SAOs.

Workability Asia Conference 2015, Pattaya, Thailand, 8-10 July 2015
Opening ceremonies at Workability Asia Conference 2015
APCD shared its expertise in disability issues as co-host of Workability Asia Conference 2015 held in Pattaya, Thailand, from 8 to 10 July 2015. With the theme, "Together We Can Make the Difference", the Conference was held in honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and her pioneering efforts to promote the empowerment of the disadvantaged and persons with disabilities in Thailand. APCD presented the importance and relevance of promoting disability-inclusive business in the Asia-Pacific region and also shared information about the APCD/JAIF Project on Rural Market Modification in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam.
The Conference was chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand, Mr. Vichien Chavalit, and hosted by The Redemptorist Foundation for People with Disabilities and Workability Thailand.

Autism-Friendly Guidebook on Recreation, Leisure and Sport
APCD releases the Autism-Friendly Guidebook on Recreation, Leisure and Sport, which was used in the recently conducted Third Country Training Programme: Knowledge Creation Forum on Community-based Development 2015 (Capacity-building of Persons with Autism and Their Parents) at the APCD Training Building. The participatory Guidebook, which was used all throughout the two-week Training, features practical exercises and activities meant to enhance the experiences of emerging disability groups such as intellectual disability, autism, and those who are hard of hearing either as individuals or as part of a team. The Guidebook is available for download at the APCD website in various accessible text formats.
