H.E. Dr. Tej Bunnag (APCD Executive Board Chairman/Former Foreign Minister of the Royal Thai Government) was feted in a cocktail reception by the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) in partnership with the Royal Thai Government, the Government of Japan and The Nippon Foundation, on the occasion of his receiving the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.

Hosted by H.E. Mr. Tanin Kraivixien (Privy Councilor and APCD Foundation President), the reception was attended by dignitaries including H.E. Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong (Deputy Prime Minister, Royal Thai Government), H.E. Mrs. Kobkarn Suriyasat Wattanavrangkul (Minister of Tourism and Sports, Royal Thai Government), H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai (Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Royal Thai Government), H.E. Mr. Shiro Sadoshima (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Embassy of Japan in Thailand),  Mr. Shuichi Ohno (Executive Director, The Nippon Foundation),  and Mr. Shuichi Ikeda (Chief Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency Thailand Office).

The recognition is part of the Government of Japan's 2015 Spring Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals for their excellent work in their respective fields of expertise. H.E. Dr. Tej Bunnag is recognized for "his valuable contribution to enhancing the cordial relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and Japan, and for promoting the international contributions of Japan in Southeast Asia."

Online Captioning Project Mid-Term Review and Evaluation, Makati City, Philippines, 24-26 June 2015

A mid-term review and evaluation of the Online Captioning Project was conducted by the Makati Social Welfare Department, APCD and ASTEM Japan, in collaboration with the Makati Persons with Disability Federation, from 24 to 26 June 2015 in Makati City, Philippines. Created in January 2015, the Online Captioning Project aims to train persons with disabilities in providing professional online captioning service for persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific region.

The review and evaluation, facilitated by APCD with captioning software provided by ASTEM Japan, was held to determine the current skills of the online captioning team and plan future activities and direction, and agree on a set of criteria and/or standards in the development of quality online captioning service at par with international standards.

Working Towards TCI-Asia Strategy Development on Psychosocial Disability, Bangkok, Thailand, 9-11 June 2015

The Meeting of the Transforming Communities for Inclusion (TCI)-Asia titled "Working Towards TCI-Asia Strategy Development" on psychosocial disability was organized by the Bapu Trust for Research on Mind and Discourse, in collaboration with APCD, with support from International Disability Alliance and Open Society Foundation at the APCD Training Building, Bangkok, Thailand, from 9 to 11 June 2015. Nine participants from Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand attended the Meeting.

The Meeting aims to promote Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities regarding the inclusion of persons with psychosocial disabilities in the Asian region. The objectives of the Meeting included the sharing of advocacy work and experiences, as well as to discuss the possibilities of having a UNCRPD-compliant Mental Health law and consider the Community-based Rehabilitation (CBR) framework's strengths and limitations towards the inclusion of persons with psychosocial disabilities.

CIAI-APCD Project's Establishment of CBID Committee and Definition of SAO Plan, Kanchanaburi, Thailand, 22-23 June 2015

The CIAI (Italian Association for Aid to Children)-APCD Project conducted a series of activities in two sub-districts, Lin Thin and Huay Khayeng, in Kanchanaburi, Thailand from 22 to 23 June 2015. The highlights of said activities were the establishment of a Community-based Inclusive Development Committee and to define the Sub-district Administrative Organization (SAO) plan in the two sub-districts.

The activity is part of CIAI-APCD's "Community for All" Project that seeks to promote a barrier-free society in four provinces in Thailand - Kanchanaburi, Nakorn Sri Thammarat, Phayao and Sisaket.
