Skills Development Training for the Empowerment of Thai Persons with Disabilities (Pre-Opening Training), Bangkok, Thailand, 11 May - 29 July 2015
Thai persons with disabilities undergoing training
Fifteen Thai persons with disabilities are currently taking part in the Orientation Skills Development Training for Empowerment (Pre-Opening Training), held by the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) in collaboration with Thai Yamazaki Co. Ltd., Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand. Divided into Production and Sales teams, participants are learning basic baking skills in Thai Yamazaki branches, as well as sales and shop operations.
The Training is part of the 60 Plus Project, a joint initiative to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 2015, which aims to give Thai persons with disabilities various opportunities to develop communication and livelihood skills in a barrier-free working environment.

Study Trip of the Government of South Africa in Collaboration with JICA, Bangkok, Thailand, 18 May 2015

APCD hosted a study trip for the delegation from the Department of Social Development (DSD) of the Government of South Africa in collaboration with JICA at the APCD Training Building on 18 May 2015.
The Study Trip was in preparation for the DSD-JICA Technical Cooperation Project on Disability, which aims to strengthen regional cooperation in the southern part of Africa. Guests were introduced to APCD's roles and responsibilities, as well as its activities and projects, in the Asia-Pacific region. They also paid a field visit to a Community-based Inclusive Development (CBID) site in Thailand on 21 May 2015.

Introductory Empowerment Training for Emerging Groups of Thailand Through CBID of APHEDA Staff, Bangkok, Thailand, 20 May 2015
Disability Equality Training for participants
Members of the Australian People for Health, Education, and Development Abroad (APHEDA) in Vietnam participated in the Introductory Empowerment Training for Emerging Groups of Thailand through Community-based Inclusive Development (CBID) at the APCD Training Building on 20 May 2015.
The Training is part of the Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA Vietnam's project on Decent Work and Community Empowerment for People with Disabilities in partnership with State agencies and Disabled People's Organizations (DPOs) in Vietnam. The purpose of the trip was to find a suitable model to learn from for the sustainability of DPOs. Training participants took part in the Disability Equality Training session conducted by APCD and visited the Association of Parents for Thai Persons with Autism's facilities.

Exchange with Social Welfare Organization GLOW, Bangkok, Thailand, 11 May 2015
Visitors exchanging information with APCD staff
Representatives of the Social Welfare Organization GLOW, in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan, visited APCD on 11 May 2015 to research and study local disability arts practices in Thailand and other Asia-Pacific countries. GLOW runs the Borderless Art Museum NO-MA, which specializes in the exhibition of artwork by artists with disabilities as a way to increase their visibility in society.
The participants, comprised of art curators, art directors and business persons, expressed their interest in tapping Asian artists for future international exhibits.
