Launching Ceremony on the Commitment of Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Decade for Person with Disabilities 2013-2022, Incheon Strategy “Make the Rights Real”, and Declaration on Development of National Disability Strategic Plan 2014-2018

The Launching Ceremony on the Commitment of Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Decade for Person with Disabilities 2013-2022, Incheon Strategy “Make the Rights Real”, and Declaration on Development of National Disability Strategic Plan 2014-2018 was organized by the Royal Government of Cambodia through the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veteran and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY) and the Disabilities Action Council (DAC) in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) and Australian AID (AusAID) on 29 May 2013 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The ceremony was attended by more than 800 participants. The Royal Government of Cambodia had ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) on 20 December 2012 and the launching ceremony was held to reassure the continuation of the protection and promotion of the rights of the persons with disabilities. The CRPD and Incheon Strategy were successfully launched in Cambodia by the Prime Minister. The Kingdom of Cambodia was the first nation in Asia and the Pacific to officially launch the Incheon Strategy. The CRPD and Incheon Strategy in Khmer were publicized by the Royal Government of Cambodia through MoSVY and DAC in cooperation with ESCAP and APCD.

Workshop on Non-Handicapping Environment (NHE) and Emerging Groups in Cambodia, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 29 May 2013

The "Workshop on Non-Handicapping Environment (NHE) and Emerging Groups in Cambodia” was organized with support from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation of Cambodia (MOSVY), Disability Action Council of Cambodia (DAC) and the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 29 May 2013.
Over 40 representatives from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (MOSVY), the Disability Action Council (DAC), APCD/JAIF Project community members, the Komar Pikar Foundation (KPF), the Parents Association for Children with Intellectual Disability (PACHID) and APCD participated in the workshop to exchange and elaborate the views on NHE among emerging groups on disability, including groups and organizations of persons with intellectual disabilities and autism. At the end of the session, the "Agreement of Publication on Autism and Intellectual Perspective" was developed and supported by the participants.

“APCD/JAIF Project Steering Committee Meeting of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV)”, 6-7 June 2013 and “APCD/JAIF Project Training on Non-Handicapping Environment (NHE)”, 10-14 June 2013, Bangkok, Thailand
Representatives from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam
The second round of the APCD/JAIF Project Steering Committee Meeting of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV) was organized by APCD through the APCD/JAIF Project at the Eastin Grand Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand from 6-7 June 2013. With over 60 participants from CLMV, the meeting included presentations on activities and progressions in relation to the Project by the representatives from each country while a session on preliminary action planning was held to provide guidance for the members. The “Mekong Input on the Non-Handicapping Environment (NHE) to Promote Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBID)” was adopted with a consensus of agreement from all participants.
From 10-14 June 2013, “APCD/JAIF Project Training on Non-Handicapping Environment (NHE)” was conducted for the members from CLMV at the same venue. Besides knowledge in non-handicapping environment, various topics such as disability equality training and universal design were discussed to develop the capacity of the participants and to draw out Action Plan for each CLMV country.

Kick off CIAI-APCD Project “Community for All” in Sisaket Province

Members of the CIAI-APCD Project “Community for All” visited Sisaket province during 24-28 June 2013. With the main objective to make a better understanding concerning Community-based Inclusive Development (CBID), the members met executive members from six Sub-district Administrative Organizations (SAO), including Pakmai SAO of Huai Thap Than district; Koo SAO, Suengkhao SAO and Toom SAO of Si Rattana district; Nam Kliang SAO of Nam Kliang district; and Saothongchai SAO of Kantharalak district.
The Project aims to achieve collaborative establishment of CBID with participation from people in the community and all stakeholders in the first two years.
