The Regional Workshop on Disability-Inclusive Agribusiness Development organized by APCD, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and The Nippon Foundation was held at the United Nations Convention Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, from 21 to 22 February 2013. Over 120 representatives of government, business and civil society organizations participated in the regional workshop. The selected agribusiness practitioners from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam discussed their expertise. Acknowledging the challenges they face as business owners, suppliers and employees, many also noted how persons with disabilities often develop innovative solutions. The Bangkok Recommendations on Disability-Inclusive Agribusiness Development was presented and unanimously adopted by participants.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) dispatched more than international JICA Volunteers of practice members from JICA offices located all over the Asia-Pacific to participate in the Workshop on Disability Development at APCD training building from 6 to 8 February 2013. The workshop was conducted by 5 main resource persons allocated with highly experiences and qualified in this field, namely Dr. Kenji Kuno, JICA Senior Advisor of JICA office in Malaysia, Ms. Phacharin Sujaritwatansak , Leader of Dao Ruang Self-Advocacy for Persons with Intellectual Disability/Chairperson, United ID (Intellectual Disability) Mekhong Sub-Region Network, Ms. Chayada Wiriyasiriwech, the office staff of Chonburi Independent Living Center (CILC), as well as disability and development experts from APCD side; Mr. Ryuhei Sano, Acting General Manager and Mr. Jasper Rom, Community Development Manager.

Training Activities at APCD

About 20 delegates, including some persons with intellectual disabilities, from the Japan Christian Social Work League participated in the International Training on Community Perspective at APCD training building from 23 to 26 January 2013. A Thai leader with intellectual disabilities shared her viewpoint about disability. APCD Staff facilitated for Disability Equality Training. After intensive training at APCD training building, the delegates visited to the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and Nonthaburi Independent Living.

APCD Executive Board members and staff

Dr. Tej Bunnag, Chairman of APCD Executive Board, gave appreciation Remarks to the Thai Life Insurance Public Company Limited for Medical Insurance Coverage for APCD Staff including those with Disabilities on 29 January 2013. APCD Executive Board members and staff also expressed sincere thanks to the company for promoting barrier-free society. The appreciation went to Mr. Angkoon Srikanlayanabuth, Executive Vice President, who proactively supported the process. The company is committed to be a leading insurance company with international standard to provide financial security with comprehensive products and services to respond to the needs of clients.
