The training was held at the APCD Training Building in Bangkok, Thailand from 24 July to 6 August 2016. The participatory training gathered 22 young artists with intellectual disabilities and their parents from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Thailand. Training participants created various art works and animation through creative exercises, and enabled them to develop interpersonal skills with each other and as a part of a wider community. Resource persons from Japan and Thailand, who are experts in the intensive development of persons with special needs, including art and independent living skills for persons with intellectual disabilities were invited. Field visits to the Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability of Thailand (APIDT) and the Na Kittikoon Foundation were also conducted. At the closing ceremony, H.E. Mr. Shiro Sadoshima (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Thailand) gave a special lecture on art and disability where he shared his own experiences as an artist. Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij (Deputy Director General, TICA) and Mr. Hiroo Tanaka (Chief Representative, JICA-Thailand), as well as Ms. Vijttra Rajatanuntikul (Director, Strategic and Planning Department, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, MSDHS) also gave closing remarks and messages, respectively.
