Collaboration with Regional Partners for 'Angels Walk for Autism', Manila, Philippines, 5 February 2017

The Philippines' 'Angels Walk for Autism 2017' was held on 5 February 2017 at the SM Mall of Asia in Manila. Attended by more than 20,000 persons with autism, their parents and supporters, the annual event was led by the Autism Society Philippines (ASP) in partnership with SM Cares, and in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) and ASEAN Autism Network, the ASEAN Secretariat, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA).Launched 17 years ago, the Angels Walk for Autism aims to raise awareness about autism and to educate the public on how to best deal with the condition.

Exchange of information about APCD's recent activities and projects
APCD met with officials of the Philippines' DSWD on 6 February 2017 to exchange information about APCD's recent activities and projects in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as strengthen ties with the Government of the Philippines in the promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities.
Meetings were also held with officials and staff of the NCDA where accessibility topics, such as the country's ongoing Non-Handicapping Environment projects in several parts of the country, were discussed.

Study Visit of Thai-Japanese Association School, Bangkok, Thailand, 14 February 2017

Eighteen students and nine teachers from the special needs education class of the Thai Japanese Association School conducted a field trip to APCD on 14 February 2017 to learn bread-making and other practical skills. For the visit, the grade school students with intellectual disability tried their hand at baking different kinds of bread as well as learning how to choose and buy bakery items.

Chuo University Field Visit to APCD, Bangkok, Thailand, 17 February 2017

Students and staff from Chuo University in Japan conducted a field visit to APCD on 17 February 2017 to get more information about disability and how APCD is contributing to the empowerment of persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific region. During the visit, they learned more about APCD's regional activities and became more knowledgeable about its close collaboration with the Government of Japan on disability matters.The 10 participants were also given a tour of APCD Training Building's accessible facilities and interacted with the 60 Plus+ Bakery & Cafe's staff with disabilities.

Field Visit of Faculty of Architecture, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Bangkok, Thailand, 6 February 2017
Students and faculty with APCD staff
Twenty students and staff of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang's Faculty of Architecture visited the APCD on 6 February to learn more and have a better understanding about accessibility principles, and to get more acquainted with APCD's regional activities, particularly in the Greater Mekong Subregion and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.

Visit of Myanmar Federation of Persons with Disabilities, Bangkok, Thailand, 17 February 2017

Representatives from the Myanmar Federation of Persons with Disabilities visited the APCD on 17 February 2017 to learn more about its regional activities that promote empowerment and a barrier-free society for persons with disabilities in the Asia Pacific region. They were also briefed on APCD activities related to the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
