APCD continues support as resource persons on second and third parts of “Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DIDRR) Workshop” organized by the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEP) from
24 - 27 February and 1 - 4 March 2020, Prince Palace Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand


More than 200 Thai leaders with diverse disabilities, government officials from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, parents and family members of persons with disabilities, and community leaders from 20 provinces took part in the second and third sections of “Workshop on Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DIDRR)” at the Prince Palace Hotel, Bangkok, from 25 – 27 February and 2 – 4 March 2020 in Bangkok, Thailand (the first section was conducted from 18-21 February 2020)

The workshops were organized by the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEP), funded by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand (MSDHS). Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) by
Mr. Somchai Rungsilp, Manager of Community Development Department and
Mr. Watcharapol Chuengcharoen, Chief of Networking & Collaboration supported the workshop as the resource persons. The purpose of the workshop was to exchange knowledge on the engagement of persons with disabilities in community-based DIDRR efforts towards plans of action in their communities.

APCD in-house capacity development training, 28 February 2020, at APCD, Bangkok, Thailand

The Community Development Department (CDD) conducted APCD in-house “Revolution on Inclusive Education for All in Thailand”. External resource person, Dr. Tamala Boonyakarn, professor of Special Education Development Center (SEDEC), Faculty of Education from Srinakharinwirot University shared her knowledge and experiences.

The internal training was organized on 28 February 2020 at the APCD. APCD staff gained knowledge on the principle and contextual differences between special education and inclusive education for all. The ultimate goal of special education is to bring about a principle of inclusive education for all throughout the region.

The Visit by UNDP resident representatives, Mr. Renaud Meyer
and staff to APCD for discussion about future collaboration on “Building the Resilience of Persons with Disabilities to Cope with Climate Change in the
Asia Pacific Region” on 3 March 2020, at APCD, Bangkok, Thailand

The resident representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Thailand, Mr. Renaud Meyer and his staff visited APCD for discussion about future collaboration on “Building the Resilience of Persons with Disabilities to Cope with Climate Change in the Asia Pacific Region” on 3 March 2020 at APCD.

The Social Development and Human Security Minister and the Director General of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEP) visited APCD  60+ Plus Bakery and Chocolate Café on 6 March 2020, at APCD, Bangkok, Thailand

 


 

APCD was honoured to be visited by the Social Development and Human Security Minister, his excellency Mr. Juti Krairiksh, and Ms. Thanaporn Promsuwan Director General of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEP) at the project on APCD  60+ Plus Bakery and Chocolate Café on 6 March 2020 at APCD. The purpose was to strengthen collaboration on promoting a good practice of Disability Inclusive Business (DIB) among the Government of Thailand, the Disabled People Organization (DPOs) and APCD.

Monthly gathering of Dao Ruang Group (Self-Advocate Group of Thai Persons with Intellectual Disabilities) on 15 March 2020, Bangkok, Thailand


 

Twenty members, including self-advocates of the Dao Ruang Group, their parents and supporters, gathered to implement the monthly activity. The meeting was conducted in Bangkok, Thailand on March, 15th 2020. The purpose of the meeting was to commit an action plan for the year 2020. The meeting discussed about generating income activities. It was agreed to make herbal soap and art painting as generating income activities. The activities will be conducted in June.  In addition, the gathering discussed future cooperation with United ID Network MEKONG Sub-Region and will exchange with members form Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Viet Nam for the next meeting.
 APCD's Chief, Networking & Cooperation Mr. Watcharapol Chuengcharoen facilitated the meeting and summarized Dao Ruang Group activities for participants.

The main and original objectives of Thai self-advocates group are to make friends, to develop their capacities and to strengthen the collaboration among Dao Ruang Group, United ID Network MEKONG Sub-Region and APCD.
